Description
This artistic functional redwood table is a celebration of salvaged wood. While this uncomplicated design pays homage to the majestic redwood trees it is also a great display table. The fun design stays true to our desire to reclaim and salvage discarded natural wood. This is an exclusive by Kelly Maxwell Designs for Littlebranch Farm. While this redwood table is functional let’s take a look into the concept behind the artistic design. The foundation is a small redwood burl slab. Which supports a large spike-shaped redwood wood slab with a gnarly live edge top?
Artistic functional redwood table
The spike shape redwood reminded Kelly of a railroad spike or a dowel used in old mortise and tenon construction. Redwood was commonly used in and around the transcontinental railroad. Thus, a great way to pay homage to the versatility of old-growth redwood. But no natural wood table is complete without shelves or a tabletop. A few years ago Kelly bought a handful of wood planks salvaged from old wooden water tanks in the Big Sur area. Thus, the perfect shelves to complete this artistic rustic table. Though the design is simple the table is functional but also honors a majestic tree.
