Reclaimed barn wood mantel feathers a natural weathered gray look and a hand-hewed edge on all four sides. Reclaimed from a 150-year-old barn, handcrafted without the use of power tools. These historic wood beams were shaped with a man-powered hewing ax. Hewing’s a process in which a log’s shaped from round to square or other needed shapes. Thus, it’s not precise as the size can vary along the length of the wood beam. Along with our redwood and maple wood beams, these rustic fireplace mantels also find use as structural beams. We typically leave these rustic mantels in their raw, unfinished state, but we are glad to finish, so ask. As always, we can shorten any rustic mantel, but sadly, we have not invented a wood stretcher.
