Description
This tree stump rustic vanity begins with wood that already lived a long, hard life before it reached the shop. The countertop is cut from a 5-inch-thick end-grain sinker cypress log, felled around 1890 and left in a bayou near Dermott, Arkansas. Water preserved the wood, deepened its color, and gave it a density you won’t find in modern lumber.
The top rests on a western cedar root, left much as nature shaped it. Not carved. Not forced. Just cleaned, stabilized, and finished so the movement, voids, and strength stay visible. The result is both furniture and sculpture—honest and functional.
An oval hammered copper sink sits in the cypress top. It is made for daily use, not just for show, and pairs with the warmth of the wood. The surface is finished by hand with natural hardwax oil, giving the wood a soft feel that stands up to splashes and daily life.
This is not a reproduction or something made in a rush. The cypress slab is the last piece from a single historic log, worked on over twenty years. When this vanity leaves the shop, there will be no other like it.
